Finding a job in a new career path is challenging, even more challenging during the current pandemic. How do you find your dream career in the #2020 job market? You can jumpstart your career with two simple steps. Take the first step, commit to self-discovery, and learn what a dream career is for you. This will look very different for everyone. Ask yourself, “What makes me happy?” “What am I passionate about?”
After spending 30 days of self-reflection, I know I need a career that allows me to be creative, an innovative leader, and use my natural talent for networking in a professional environment. I build professional networks rapidly, so quickly that LinkedIn thought I was a “bot” and flagged my account when I made the goal to double my connections for my career growth. I successfully more than doubled my connections in less than 2 weeks, because I enjoy learning about others and genuinely, actively listen. We can learn so much from others if we take the time to actively listen to their experiences.
I am also passionate about technology and tech-savvy without effort. I am the “go-to” when work colleagues are stumped with tech questions, another natural talent. Creating the second step, ask yourself “What career options harness your natural talents?” I am a natural networker, I love building relationships with others, I lead without hesitation, and I solve problems under high stress without feeling any pressure. Do you thrive off of interacting with others or do you prefer being in a role where you can stay behind the scenes? Here is a good test to know the answer to this question. If you have a stressful day, do you want to be alone or be with others? I am energized by interacting with others. I need a mentally challenging career that allows me to be ambitious, interact with others, and grow to my full potential.
I am excited to start a career in marketing consulting and sales. Now I am tackling the next hurdle …. well, in reality, it is a HUGE hurdle. I need recruiters to take a chance on me. Two of the biggest obstacles I am facing at this stage are 1. keywords and 2. lack of “relatable” job experience. My life experience and professional experience equipped me to do whatever it takes to accomplish my goals. I never quit. I never stop fighting for a dream when I believe in it. I developed transferable skills that set me apart, but that is a hard sell on paper or without seeing my job performance.
Once you discover what you are passionate about, you will relentlessly, persistently, and consistently seek it. You will get told “no” many times as you pursue a new career or seek a new job, but if you are passionate about obtaining your new goal, no one will be able to stop you. NEVER listen to the “no’s”! NEVER feel discouraged. You can do anything you put your mind to! I was able to successfully go through 3 years of Anesthesia school. How did I get through 100+ hrs/wk for 3 consecutive years? Determination, strong will, and dedication to successfully completing a goal. You got this! ?
