Hard work beats talent! What do you believe? I believe you can achieve anything you imagine with a positive attitude and consistent hard work. I applied this philosophy today as I try to land a new career in a different area of expertise on COVID day 6. Yes, I am COVID positive. Yes, I still followed through with my commitment to 5 virtual job interviews.
I am extremely knowledgeable in medicine with 3 years of doctorate of anesthesia training, but I want to use this knowledge in an area where I can be creative and innovative. I am either hella dedicated or hella crazy because I just finished my 5th virtual interview while on day 6 with COVID symptoms. I felt slightly weak up until yesterday, but that was too late to cancel 5 x 1 hr commitments within the same organization. I decided to power through, attempting to present my best self in every interview.
How did I power through 5, 1 hour-long virtual interviews with COVID? Well, thank goodness for makeup, coffee, and ROHTO cooling eye drops. These things allowed me to cover up my illness and at least put a somewhat normal face forward for the interviewers. My eyes were red and they continued to get redder as the day continued. I took advantage of interview breaks …. napping for 20 min every 2 hours, applying blush to bring life back to my face, and eliminated my red eyes with the Rohto cooling eye drops.
No matter what happens from today, I will either gain the job opportunity of a lifetime or I will gain incredible interview experience. Either way, it is a win-win! I want to transition into a career path where I can use my innovative creativity alongside my medical knowledge.
I am still fighting to land a new position that will not place me in the clinical area but allows me to use my extensive knowledge base. How do I feel on day 6? Extremely weak, fatigued, and my chest burning is intense. COVID actually presented in an odd way, my very first symptom was facial swelling. Benadryl and Pepcid were able to control the swelling, but then the real COVID symptoms began.
Every day I wake up and feel like I was hit by a train. I am documenting every step along my journey and will continue to share my videos on YouTube and my website www.theautumndavis.com Keep following along my journey. I hope this helps someone else to recognize the weird symptoms and encourages you to stay strong along your COVID journey.
