Consistency, determination, and adaptability are essential to success. Everyone encounters life circumstances outside of their control, but how do you respond to these events? You are the only person in control of your response. How you react to these uncontrollable, unanticipated events will determine if you reach your goals.
At the start of the year, I set goals for myself and developed a plan of action to reach these goals. I did not know fate had a completely different plan for January 2021 than me. As I welcomed the new year, I also greeted the unwanted visitor COVID. My COVID symptoms quickly progressed, making it unrealistic for me to accomplish my original goals. Never feel discouraged when you do not reach a goal in the initial timeline. Life is a marathon, not a sprint.
When life changes, change with it. Be adaptable and willing to readjust your goals along the journey. Small steps still create progress. Every step you take, is one step closer to your ultimate goal. Setting realistic goals will help you stay motivated.
On COVID day 6, I knew I needed to adjust my goals and set realistic expectations. After powering through 5, 1-hour interviews, it was time to accept my limitations. Combine COVID fog with fatigue and who knows what I said to the interviewers on that day?? Instead of going full speed ahead, I decided to spend 10 minutes/day being productive. Conquering small goals and staying motivated along the journey.
